Arcade and Humor

Post By Lady Nia on 27-Jun-2008
We've added a room for you to relax and enjoy yourself while you are waiting on other people. It will be updated frequently with new jokes and videos, and it will always have some free arcade games like Majhong, Jewel Thief, Dungeon Hunt, Robin Hood, and many more.

If you click on the link on the front page, it opens up right there. I prefer that you right click, open a new window, and then keep up your "who's on" list or your room, posting in the room at least every 10 minutes, and refreshing the who's on list.

This way you can relax and enjoy your time on line while waiting for your RPG partners to show up, but also see when they show up.

JOURNEY TO KYLOCK - Starting place Nia's Tavern.

Post By Lady Nia on 25-Jun-2008
Check with Nia's Tavern tonight around 6:30 CST. If Anna of the Swords can play tonight, we will kick off tonight. If Anna cannot play I will give you some side games tonight, and will let Anna tell you when to officially start off. -------------------- Basic Info: It is a long and dangerous road from Nia's Tavern to Dragon's Mount. Kylock lives in Dragon's Mount. A very important object is being transported from Anna's chosen location to Kylock. This object is something most evil creature, lords, minions would want if they knew what it was. This object is something any good person, priest, lord, etc., would do almost anything to keep out of evil hands. -------------------- Since one of the most frustrating things for online roleplayers is that sense of "I cannot be there for every single game so I cannot play in a quest" feeling, and the second is "Our game came to a total stop when that jerk didn't show up for the games anymore, " I offer you the Magical Triangle. Or as mages call it, the Tpeyrosbhnk Magisches. A peddler will show up at Nia's Tavern tonight. He or she will be selling a marvelous little magical device. It will be a little object that locks together like 3 puzzle pieces to form a triangle. Each piece has a word written on it. Piece 1: The base, has основание written on it (which means base). Piece 2: Has REISE written on it (which means journey). Piece 3: Has kürzeste Entfernung (which means shortest distance). (And you humans think magic isn't logical. The shortest distance between 2 points is....... ) To use the Tpeyrosbhnk Magisches. Hold the triangle in your hand and whisper ganz. Then, take piece one, the OCHOBAHNE piece, and set it down or hide it or give it to someone who is likely to stay at your "base" location, and hold tight to the other two pieces. To leave a game in progress if you are in a place far from town: Hand the 3rd piece, the kürzeste Entfernung piece to someone else in the party or hide it in somewhere. Then you take the 2nd piece, the Reise piece, and whisper Ochobahne. A great, hot magical vortex will open up and suck you up, and drop you near the 1st piece, which is the Ochobahne piece. If you left it at Nia's, it will take you to Nia's. If you left it at the last camp, it will take you to the last camp. If you left it near a waterfall, and a fish ate it, you land in the lake with the fish. So be careful where you leave it. The ochobhane and reise pieces will bond when you arrive, and you cannot part them again until you have the 3rd piece back. Which is the piece you left behind at the camp or with your friends on the adventure. When you utter the words kurzeste entfernung you will be taken to where the third piece is, and you'll find yourself holding the original triangle again. You need to start the whole process over, by taking the whole piece, uttering the word "Ganz" and hiding it. Explanations and Notes: It takes powerful magic to use this little object, and it require special magical words. So if you are being attacked by 10,000 Orcs and use it pop out, you cannot just wait and watch as your fellow party members kill the Orcs and then pop back in as soon as they are done. If you use it to leave a game, you cannot use it to return to that same game until at least 30 minutes real-time has passed. This is NOT meant as a tool to aide lame players in dodging monsters. It is meant as tool to keep up with games even if you have to sign off for awhile. This gives you the ability to leave when you need to sign off for awhile. That is the ONLY proper use of it. It is not meant to be used to pop in and out of cities when your supplies are running low or you can't find a cleric. EXCEPTION TO THE 30 MINUTE WAIT: IF AND ONLY IF every member of your current game, including your GM of the moment or monsters you are fighting, agree to it, YOU can come back before the 30 minutes are up. You cannot, though, bring another person with you. So you can't "call in a rescue party". This is why you can't just leave the base at Nia's. That base has to move with you to your last game location. Think of it as signing off a video game and restarting a level. You can leave, and you can come back, but you don't just magically pop like a Jeannie unless that is your character's ability. Don't feel you have to be perfect about this. You don't. Don't even feel you have to act it out if you are in a hurry to go. Just go, and later claim you did what you need to do. If you want to reappear with your party, even if you are gone a LONG time and they moved on, use the magic word, "Apyebr" to use at the "camp you returned to". This is done in 2 stages. First you return to where you left your party, gather that piece, then you say Apyebr, and you appear within 1/2 a mile of your party. The reason you cannot just pop back and forth to Nia's is that it really ruins the game for others. In that light. I ask that you not play charaters trapped in a dungeon as part of the quest, as free and wild while in public rooms untl they are freed in the quest line. What you do in a private room is your business. So if you want to run concurrent stories with the same C, please take one story private. PS: The triange will not get you out of a dungeon. If you were in a dungeon when you signed off. You will be in one when you sign back on. Even if all your party abandoned you. Some people might want to buy 2 triangles. One to leave in places, like the camp, and one for your friends to carry you around. You'll have to keep your triangles straight. If you do not buy a triangle, you do not play owning a triangle. Mods are the only sellers of triangles. We will know.

Welcomes and Quest Reminders:

Post By Lady Nia on 25-Jun-2008
The first order of business is to welcome Kaizoku, Jane, Jamez and Skygoddess to the labyrinth. I hope that all of you enjoy your games! I look forward to playing with you. Please email me if you have any problems. If you want a hybrid or public room, email me that too. Our registered character count has leapt up to 2,416, and hopefully I've finally gotten all of our registered users onto our mailing list from g-mail. I'm trying to stay on line most of the days during the day and a lot of the evenings. If you don't see me, and want a game, check MSN for nuianna@hotmail.com . If I'm signed in I probably am able and willing to play with you. That is not always 100% true, but I do try. Please visit the forums, post your hello's, something about yourself, reply to one another, post when you would like a game. That kind of thing. Communication is key to keeping good games going. Hopefully tonight I can iron out the details of the quest in Nia's Tavern to kick it off tomorrow night. I'm spreading around the responsibilty for running various portions of this game to numerous people so that the game can more easily bend to suit everyone and so players will not have to have David or I present to enjoy the game. In that light, Anna of the Sword is going to handle the hiring of a team of adventurers to transport an object of massive importance to a location far away from the city of Crusadia. Anna is an experieced roleplayer from a non-WBS site where both David and I have been known to play, and is a fantastic player. Keep your eyes on the front page, and on your email, for the official kick off of the game. You do not have to be present for the first game to play in the quest. You should read the homepages of Nia's Tavern, and Crusadia. This object is extremely valuable to dark forces that may want to do harm to those who generally lean toward "goodness" or "neutrality". Buyers who are evil are certainly going to want to get their hands onto it. Heros are certainly going to want to find it and take it back to Crusadia and hand it over to either Saryn, Nia or Alexander. Peasants, petty thieves, blackmailers, hookers, clerics, healers, and shop keepers may just find out they are in the wrong place at the wrong time. Guards will be looking for anyone trying to move this object, so some of you may end up in dungeons. If you get in the way of a monster, or distrub a cranky group while parading around their area, that's your mistake. That said: This game is specifically designed to work as a "free for all" situation to experienced gamers, with a bit of structure, but a lot of freedom to create your own side games. For instance: If you don't want to work for Anna, or you fail to get hired by Anna, you could create your own game for your character to react in anyway that would be logical for your character. An innocent bystander hearing the conversations might try to alert a guard or someone. A person rejected by Anna might be angry and decide to form their own group to steal it from the party. A young girl who was in the room, but not listening might be persumed to be about to turn them in, and therefore kidnapped or threatened. You are limited only by your imagination with very few excpetions. The exception is, do not ruin the game for everyone. Yeas and years ago, when Nia's and WBS were new, we had a game similiar to this arranged where players were having to search for an object. It was carefully designed to be an old fashioned dungeon crawl that would allow every player at the old place (and there were a LOT of players there folks) to play in the game, when a new player that wanted to impress everyone walked in an announced something along the lines of, "Oh, is this what you are looking for? I found it" during the "hiring" date we all hated him. The poor kid never knew why no one on the site liked him after that. Do not make that mistake. Do not let others make that mistake. If you think someone it going to totally derail the game, come to me, or Alex, or Anna. We CAN (and will) moderate around the issue. That doesn't mean you can't actually find it, and get it to Alex or Nia in a good gaming way that seems fair and reasonable to other players. It just means that until we are ready to say, "Okay, game over," you're either going to have a very difficult time having your character find us to give it to us, or we're going to let it slip through our fingers to be back into play again, or we're going to try to transport it somewhere so that the bad guys can take a shot at it again. MOST of the game's fun will not be about the object itself though. For those new to this kind of gaming, most of the fun will be in the side adventures you create yourself. The kind of things like when you have an appointment with a very important person in the next village at 3:00, and you accidentally stumble on a group of Kobolds who don't agree that you should make it to the next village. Or the day that you accidentally land in a dungeon and have to figure out how to bribe your way out, break out, or go to court and pray you don't hang. Or the beautiful forest Nymph you meet who sweeps you off your feet so that you no longer care about the object. You can get caught in floods or forest fires for all we care. Just have fun! We get a LOT of hits on rooms, but a lot of you seem to only want to play if David or I are on line. Please don't do that. There are some of the most amazing writers and roleplayers on the web registered at our site. Play with each other and you'll find that out. Nia's Tavern will play the "focal point" of the game, but you can play this game in private rooms, Crusadia, Lost Rune.... I'll try to be on earlier tomorrow night, around 6:00 cst; and I'll stay later. Getting into adult rooms: If you need access to adult or over 18 rooms and are not getting in, you'll need to validate that you are an adult. We are a very laid back group, but we do not want underage people to be at risk on our site. I am about to put in a request for your date of birth on the site. The only thing I care about is that you're old enough for the rooms you want into. Other sites validate by making you send them a $1 via paypall. I do not want to do that. I don't want your money, I want you to have fun on a site that is safely and responsbily operated. Until I get that code written, you can email your date of birth along with your LOGIN handle to fateslabyrinth@gmail.com. It will not be posted anywhere. It is just for validation purposes. By sending it to us, you will be swearing, via electornic signature, that you are the age you are presenting yourself to be. See the Terms of Service if you have questions, or email me. We won't post it. We just want to keep underage people out of the adult rooms. Happy gaming!

George Carlin (May 12, 1937- June 22, 2008)

Post By Lady Nia on 24-Jun-2008
In memory of one the greatest comedians to have shared his genius with the world."I think it's the duty of the comedian to find out where the line is drawn and cross it deliberately." "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." (Please look for George Carlin Videos on Youtube.) "Honesty may be the best policy, but it's important to remember that apparently, by eliminiation, dishonesty is the second-best policy." "Some national parks have long waiting lists for camping reservations. When you have to wait a year to sleep next to a tree, something is wrong." "It is never just a game when you're winning." "There is no present. There is only the immediate future and the recent past." "Weather forecast for tonight: Dark. Continued dark overnight, with widely scattered light by morning." "The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, 'You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done.'" Upcoming Quest:

Post By Lady Nia on 23-Jun-2008
One of the beauties of Nia's Tavern is that everyone need not always be present to keep a game going. In light of that, in the next few days I will use this forum to set up and kick off the beginning of a quest-like game for Nia's. The basic outline will be as simple as they come. Certain parties will be hiring adventurers for a specific quest - the goal being to transport some one or some thing to a party waiting on the other end. The opportunities for adventure are as dependent upon you as they are up anyone running the game. You can work with the team trying to get through, you can work independently - trying to locate them and steal it, you can work with others trying to steal or destroy it, you can be a helpless person caught between the rival factions, a shop owner who gives them business, a monster they accidentally disturb, a group of heros just trying to stop the chaos that I hope will result. If I work my logistics out like I used to in the old days (I'm rusty folks), we should be able to set this up so that while I will be very active in the game, I will not necessarily need to be present for you to have a grand ole time without me. (Case in point. If I post that Herbert is hiring a cleric, you don't need me to make a grand adventure of Herbert's frantic struggle to get to the tavern to be interviewed and hired.) Warning to thieves and cut throats, while Nia's is official neutral ground, she does get a lot of business from the Crusadian official guard, and if you open your mouth in front of Saryn or Alex or Nia or Kurt or others on a bad day and land yourself in Alexander's dungeons, well, you have been warned.

Friday's Stats

Post By Lady Nia on 22-Jun-2008
I haven't gotten the Saturday Stats in yet, but the Friday Stats showed activity in 5 rooms, with 2,283 characters registered, and several new members. A few members and characters dropped off due to inactivity, so remember, login every once in awhile, even if you can't stick around for a game. For those of you coming from the sister-sites that had lounges, we've set up the Visitor's Lounge for Out-of-Character ((OOC)) visiting, and to wait to find a game. If you're in a room and a game is going on, you might want to keep the OOC to PM's as much as possible. That said, a lot of us are old friends just re-locating one another, and if you happen to land in a room where people are talking OOC, remember that anything enclosed in (( )) is out-of-character chatter, and be patient with the friends. Remember to check out homepages and splash pages for information about the rooms you are entering. If you are having trouble with your pictures, it may be that your size is either too big pixel wise, or byte wise. You can contact one of the room mods to see what the limits for the room you are entering is. With Nia's and the Visitor's Center I've tried to give you lots of flexibility in that department. If you are a sci-fi or Star Wars fan, you may want to check out Entralla. For medieval fantasy settings try Drassiniyan, Crusadia or Nia's Tavern. For modern story lines based largely on television shows such as Veronica Mars, check out Goondocks. For a general all-genre setting, look at Affinity. If you are seeking access to an age-restricted room, you must first verify your age. To do that, currently, contact the fates at fateslabyrinth@gmail.com and we'll figure out the best way to verify your age. (Sister sites often request at least a $1 donation for verification, but we are trying to avoid that for now.) If you haven't checked out the Elf Only Inn comic, click the link on the front page, and then select "First" of his series. Josh and his lady Shannon played at the original Nia's many years ago before WBS sold the first time, and has become quite a hit for his comic based on roleplay rooms. (He swears that the comic is not based on Nia's Tavern.) If you are new and wondering how the private rooms work. Once you are logged in, look below the room list, and you'll see a place that says "Private Room". Enter the name of the room in that box, and it will create a generic room for you. Warning though, the system will erase private rooms after a certain number of hours, so if you want to open a room that has its own splash page and info, you should contact the Fates at fateslabyrinth@gmail.com. Recently I've gotten several questions about Nia's Tavern. For a basic geography of the region, look at the geography section of Crusadia's pages. Nia's Tavern sits between the elf lands and Crusadia. For a feel of the story lines that have run in Nia's, check out the forums and homepages of both of those rooms. The best way to approach Nia's is to decide if you are a citzen of one of the lands listed on the geography section of Crusadia's pages or from another land, (or plane of existance), who has wandered into the place. Many of the old Nia's regs started out as "weary travelers" who landed in a place they began to think of as a home away from home. I hope it can become the same for you and your characters.

Welcome new players and Welcome Affinity!

Post By Lady Nia on 22-Jun-2008
We added new players last night, and our new character count is now up to 2,280. Welcome to the folks from Affinity! Remember, if you want a room on Fate's you have several options. 1) You can just create a private room by entering a room name in the Private Realm? Box 2) You can email David or I and set up a public and/or hybrid room. We don't require that you keep a minimum post count, and we don't charge you for rooms. --- Special thanks to StarDawn and Voel for the games yesterday afternoon. David and I have known Star Dawn for longer than any of us care to admit. Dawn and Voel are both amazing writers. If you get a chance to play with either of them, you won't regret it! --- Special thanks to Megan and Maia for keeping the Visitor's Center going last night. If people are looking for a game, and don't know which room to try, you might "hang out in the lobby" there. ---- I won't out all of you who played last night, or who visited, but please know that I am glad all of you came, and I am sorry that I missed so many of you. (We had major air to ground lightening last night so I shut down early.) ---- I should be around most of this afternoon for anyone who wants a game. Look for me on MSN undre Nuianna@hotmail.com . ---- Remember to "Craze" the site, and once in awhile vote for us on the webrings. The more players we have to play with, the less annoyed you are when David and I are offline. :-) Oh, and the more fun YOU have.

Wow! What a night! Thank you everyone!

Post By Lady Nia on 20-Jun-2008
First news of the day, our puppet count and our player count are growing every day. We now have 2,277 registered characters on the site. Thank you to everyone who showed up at Nia's last night! Our little 1 hour game ran a little over 3 hours, and a few dear old friends from the way-way-way back days showed up. A few other old friends have contacted me via MSN (Voel, Waylander). Characters or people OOC last night included: Auntie Roo - (OOC, but thank you for coming!!!! Roo made our admin areas user friendly! So kiss her feet when you see her. Or log onto fate Bound and send her a donation.) Clovis (A Centaur, and a good friend of Sky and Dave!) Diamonde (A lovely young lady who was lost, and found herself near our door.) Megan (OOC, but it was wonderful to see her pop in.) StarDawn - (Yes, THE Star Dawn, a wonderful friend from the "old" days! And a published author!) Nia - (Yes, I really do play at my own site from time to time.) Willie Hardstone - (Bartender and former seaman. Employed by Nia and Alex to watch the bar.) Zachery Squire - (A young man who helps around the bar, especially with heavy lifting.) Alexander Goldenshield - (Yes, he really does play at his own site.) Francis Broadshire - (The barmaid for Nia's.) Monnie - (Stopped by OOC. We look forward to playing with her! A dear friend from the past.) Saffron D'Ardis dropped in after we all had split. Looks like we missed Saff by minutes. (Bummer). Saffron is a wonderful friend from the past! And the present! (Dont' worry, I know where to track Saff down.) Sheol dropped in while I was out. Sorry that I missed you! Remember, you can find me on MSN at nuianna@hotmail.com Next Game is Saturday! It begins at 11 CST. It will run at least one hour. Maybe longer. Looks like "finding the best time to play" is the biggest issue for folks. This is my down time at work, meaning, everyone in the building is on vacation, and I've already completed all my "to do" list until some of them return, so I'm going to try to be around some of the rooms on the site, or at least on MSN while I'm at work. If I can play, I will. If I'm not on site when you get there, nudge my MSN. (I won't promise to play then, but I promise to try). We have a live journal community called fateslabyrinth. Let me know your livejournal USERNAME and I'll happily send you an official invitation.

Tribute to Tim Russert: RIP May 7, 1950 - June 13, 2008

Post By Lady Nia on 18-Jun-2008
I don't usually do this, but there are not that many people in this world I really admire. Today an iconic figure passed away. Tim Russert was the host of NBC's Meet the Press. He was the Washington Bureau Chief for NBC News. He was a correspondent for the Today Show He won almost every honor that journalism can give the world today. He educated the world regarding how the Electoral College of the United States works, and coined the phrase "Red State" and "Blue State" He was one of the last old fashioned journalists around.

King's Road Killer Game Details

Post By Lady Nia on 10-Aug-2007
Game Begins in the room CRUSADIA on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 6 PM Central Standard Time. (That is 4 PM Pacific, 5 PM Mountain, 6 PM Central, 7 PM Eastern, Midnight Greenwich Time.) You do not have to be present for the beginning of the game to participate. The game is built so you can play over several days without having moderators present. If you want to participate you need to create puppets that fit into either Crusadia or Nia's Tavern (medieval fantasy). This game is freeform unless a dice role is really needed to settle a dispute. Character's are roughly based on AD&D character classes. If you are willing to allow your character to "die" (assuming the attacker plays it right), go into your character editor and in the "Tag line" section put in "Live or Let Die." This will signify that you are willing to let that character die if the game goes that way. If you do not enter this in the tag line we will assume your character will not die. Characters killed in the game can be raised from the dead later via various means such as entering a quest to the afterlife realms to bring them back, finding a cleric or necromancer to bring them back or saying that the gods sent them back (you must play them weaker or sicker for a bit if that happens). Of course you could also turn them into a ghost or something. You can play anyone of any skill level, class, race or alignment that fits into the general setting of Crusadia (and Nia's Tavern.) In the beginning, your characters will just be "normal". The killer will choose his victims. Just because you are NOT marked to die does NOT mean you won't be attacked. It just means that if you are a ttacked you'll be left for dead, instead of left dead. Those attacked who survive will not be able to totally identify the killer, but will have "bits and pieces" of memory to contribute to tracking down the killer. Eventually we anticipate you being able to play to the following situations: * Rumor mongors who complicate catching the killer by spreading false information that confuses authorities. Either intentionally or by accident. * Clerics working to heal the people who are injured, but survive. * Clerics or necromancers raising victims from the dead. (Note, you should use this to build a story of your own. Make someone quest to get their loved one back or something like that.) * Vigilante's. (You could create all kinds of havoc, and get yourself in all kinds of trouble.) * Someone who is paranoid, afraid to go out in the streets. * Heros * Copy cat killers or thieves using people's fear to feed your own needs. Like offering to escort someone and then robbing them. * Disgruntled citizens who stir up the crowd to demand better protection from the king and the king's guard. If you want to be part of the king's guard you MUST, absolutely MUST have permission from Alexander Goldenshield first, but you can ALWAYS play someone who approached Alex TRYING to be part of his guard. * A merchant looking to make a killing by selling something you claim will make people safer. Etc., etc., etc. Let your imaginations go wild. The purpose of this game is really to let players and site members get to know one another. There WILL be scheduled games, but you will NOT be limited to those. This game is set up so you can play your subplots without us around. Updates to the main games will be posted in the Crusadia Forum. Keep up to date via live-journal also. If you can't make the first game, don't worry, you can enter this game anytime you want. First official game is at 6 PM Central, Tuesday, July 24th. For questions - write fateslabyrinth@gmail.com or look for fateslabyrinth community over at live journal and post your questions there.
